Its been a long Christmas break (from uni not from waitressing I hastened to add), I haven't used my brain since last year, and the lack of mental (or lets be frank, any) stimulation has despaired me into concluding that I'm ready to settle down, get a mortgage and bare my first child. Mercifully, yesterday I returned to my internship and those small town values have been put aside, somewhat.
Facebook is constantly reminding me that my peers are doing great things with their lives, some are branch managers, others are working in the middle east and living like kings while some are simply living it large in Thailand. I, on the other hand, I'm living in a single bed (this does not bode well for my commitment to being, well, committed and in a LTR) and working all hours as a waitress just to get by. I feel so hungry for the next chapter of my life, and so tired of being a student and (lets face it) a bit of a bum.
So it would seem what I need more than a mortgage is to crack the industry, crack on with my career and delete Facebook for Christ's sake.
This morning I arrived at the office in a plume of moisture. Moisture not caused by the wettest winter on record, but caused by my tardiness which resulted in me running for the bus in heeled Chelsea boots; huffing and puffing and getting very Britishley hot and bothered.
Luckily the Ed was late too so I was able to, ERM, dry off and she was none the wiser. One thing I have noted, and been quoted time over is that “Journalists are not morning people” so the office doesn't really reach full working capacity until lunchtime.
Today's task consisted of compiling talent lists of possible interviewees along with their agent and management details. I enjoyed this piece of admin and can see myself branching out into PR if journalism goes tits up.
I also created several 'Top 10' lists – a journalism trend that I love – including CBB contestants of 2005 (I had no idea who half of them were, either), and new words of 2015 (fun, fun, fun!).
My challenge next week is to be more proactive, I've got a feeling if I play my cards right there's a chance I could be offered something a little more permanent! So next Wednesday I shall arrive dry as a bone and ready to get noticed with a bunch of ideas and a bunch of charisma too!
